When I built this store, the decision to focus on feminine care came down to two things. The first was pricing. We were able to get into distribution accounts for this product range that normally require $10 million or more in purchases every quarter.
Those distributors have since stopped opening new accounts, and we’re grandfathered in. That pricing is the backbone of this business, and it’s what lets us stay competitive on every listing we carry. The second reason is that these are needs, not wants.
Women buy these products every month, no matter the season and no matter what the economy is doing. Nobody cuts them out of their budget. A good share of our customers are on Subscribe & Save, so the same buyers keep reordering from us without us having to do anything to bring them back.
The catalog covers pretty much everything in feminine care. We sell women’s incontinence underwear, feminine pads, tampons, Vagisil feminine cream, gentle wipes for sensitive skin, anti-itch feminine wipes, odor eliminating vaginal gel, feminine wash, and a 3-day yeast infection treatment, among others. Because these are trusted brands that people already reach for, we don’t spend anything on advertising.
Here are the trailing twelve month financials: Revenue: $843,521 Net Profit: $118,431 On the operations side, we use a 3PL that receives, stores and ships everything into Amazon, so I’ve never seen or handled a single product. Two full-time virtual assistants run the day to day, and both have agreed to stay on with the new owner. Every process has an SOP behind it, and the documentation is detailed enough that someone who has never run a business could read through it and pick things up right away.
Between the team and the systems we’ve put in place, I spend about three hours a month on the store. If you want an established store in an essential category with pricing new sellers simply can’t get, I’d like to hear from you.
